ANNOUNCEMENTS

•  Over 95% of car seats that are checked in Cowlitz County are installed incorrectly!  The Child and Adolescent Clinic is pleased to announce that you can now schedule an appointment at the clinic to have your car seat checked by Angela, a Certified Child Safety Restraint Technician.  Call us at 360-577-1771 to schedule an appointment!

•  The Child and Adolescent Clinic is now providing fluoride varnishes.  As you know, rates of dental decay are high in our community, even with fluoridated water.  "The American Dental Association supports the use of fluoride varnishes as safe and efficacious within a caries prevention program that includes caries diagnosis, risk assessment, and regular dental care."  This service is not intended to replace routine dental care, but to supplement it.

You may have heard about two new vaccines in the news - RotaTeq and Gardasil.  We have both vaccines in stock, so ask about them at your next visit!

  • Gardasil is a vaccine against 4 strains of the Human Papilloma Virus.  These strains are the most common causes of cervical cancer and genital warts.  This vaccine has been approved for females aged 9 - 26 years.  This vaccine is a three shot series, similar to the Hepatitis B vaccine schedule, and the 2nd dose is given 2 months after the 1st dose, and the 3rd dose is given 6 months after the 1st dose.  For more information, follow the link http://www.gardasil.com/.  This vaccine is now covered by the state.

  • RotaTeq is the new rotavirus vaccine for infants.  Rotavirus is one of the leading viral causes of diarrhea in infants.  This is an oral vaccine, and is given to infants as young as 6 weeks up to 32 weeks.  This vaccine is a series of 3 doses, the first given between 6 - 12 weeks, and subsequent doses are given in 4 - 10 week intervals.  The first dose must be given by 12 weeks of age, and the last dose should not be given after 32 weeks of age.  For more information, follow the link http://www.rotateq.com/.  This vaccine is now covered by the state.
